Majority of these handicapped girls (about 98%) come from the most economically and socially challenged sections of the society .,.They represent a broad cross section of the society in terms of caste, ethnicity; religion and economic status, Their disabilities include Polio, Blindness, Muteness (Hearing/Speaking loss ), limited Intellectual or Emotional developments to name a few of their afflictions
A few of the girls who seek shelter at Manthan are FREE of any physical disability but have lost their entire families in one or other natural calamities. and have no support to look for They are financially handicapped
Key to Manthan’s success
One of the major keys to success at Manthan is the gift of LOVE as also financial support for every activity undertaken by the Girl herself or encouraged by Manthan. This enables the Girl to unlock her potential and build up her self respect. .The metamorphosis seen in these girls is hard to believe till seen,as one of the visitor has remarked
“The smile that ALL these girls wear show the self confidence they have regained/attained”
The self confidence they gain and the cultural programs they present;the zeal with which they prosecute their studies are comparable to or even better then girls of normal families.
