Manthan Goes Green

Manthan was spending about Rs. 2.00 lacks on fuel and other conventional cooking material, Manthan decided to save on this expense and use SOLAR energy for cooking Breakfast,Lunch Snacks and Dinner for 350 girls and 50 staff members. We approached various agencies working in the area of SOLAR ENERGY and got installed SOLAR STEAM GENERATING SYSYEM on the roof of the new hostel building. The system generates STEAM with the help of Solar Rays which are concentrated by FOUR Parabolic mirriors on a pipe where water flows. The water gets converted in Steam which is carried to Kitchen through insulated pipe lines which cooks food with the help of JACKETED Stainless Steel vessels The project has cost 13.60 lacks of which 3.20 lacks is received as subsidy from Govenment of India and Rs. 5:00 lacks as GRANT from State Bank of India

Another step of GOING GREEN is under implementation at Manthan. Sewage and other affluents were a real headache for Manthan. Everyday the girls and staff of Manthan uses about 60,000 liters of water for which it had to have SOILED WATER PITS (KHAL KUVA) at a cost of Rs. 2:00 lacks every alternate year as the one in use gets salt deposits loosing its water absorbing capacity and becomes unuseful. This pits are also required to be got cleaned every 3/4 months at a cost of approximatly Rs.20,000/-. Manthan has so far spent more then 20.00 lacks on such 8/9 soiled water pits and has lost about 30,000 sq,ft of land in the process. We are now in the process of installing the system of ELECTROLYSIS which will enable us to reuse 40,000 liters of water for gardening and growing green fodder for our cows. It is heartening to note that Manthan is going to have a grant of Rs. 7.60 lacks for the project from NaBARD and Manthan will have to contribute only about a lack of rupees.
